We were given the brief and was told that our project had to be based on a 'Sequence'.
I went home a thought about sequence a little bit more. Some of the things that came to mind was sequence of growth, life and patterns. Leaves were the obvious one as it was that time of year when leaves turn yellow and fall off trees. While in a driving lesson my instructor was explaining to me how a car worked. He was explaining how it all fitted together in a sequence. That gave me an idea for my project. However I don't know much about cars and how they worked but I stuck with this for me initial idea. After discussing this with my teacher we talked about things I could do such as using parts like for example nuts and bolts to print with and using metallic coloured fabric to create my final garment. I felt that I was limited with this just because I didn't know that much about them.

My first lesson on this brief was colour mixing we was each given a leaf. I was not allowed to use primary colours without mixing them and was painting parts of the leaf I saw through a viewfinder for texture I painted onto a pattern. The Paper used for pattern cutting is silky and waxier then normal paper this caused different effects with paint and felt tips because it glided over the paper with ease.

Each time I mixed a colour I kept it on a piece of paper to test if the paint was getting lighter or darker. This later went on to becoming my colour pallet for the most of my project. I added a little white and yellow to green to get the green lighter to capture the lighter highlights of the leaf. Likewise I added browns, oranges and blues to get the colour darker. I ABSOLOUTLY didn't use black as black is an unnatural colour and tends to flatten things. I also tried not to use as much white because it sometimes leaves behind a pastel look and matts things.

Also in this lesson I experimented with different sketching techniques as not having enough drawing with a subject matter that came up at the end of my last assessment. I did lots quick 5 min sketches using both my left and right hand, line drawings and continuous line drawings, drawing with 3 pens and using different medias. I also experimented with different techniques such as frottage and sgraffito and mix media to see what kind of looks I could create but I feel that most of them only worked well onto paper and could not be transferred on to fabric.
